ZAMMSA attains WHO Benchmark ~

By Masauso Mkwayaya

The Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency -ZAMMSA- has attained the World Health Organisation -WHO- benchmark of 70-percent drugs availability at the central warehouse.

The achievement is a direct response to ZAMMSA’s three-pronged procurement strategy which includes the Mop-up exercise, the procurement of 28,200 Health Centre kits received so far, and the Government to Government Bulk procurement from UPA of Egypt.

ZAMMSA Senior Manager-Corporate Communications BRADLEY CHINGOBE says this is coupled with procurements from cooperating partners such as the UN Agencies and Global Fund.

Mr. CHINGOBE says the diversification and streamlining of procurement processes have effectively reinforced the medicines and medical supplies availability levels at the central warehouse level.

He has told ZNBC NEWS that this has consolidated the overall healthcare infrastructure in Zambia.

Mr. CHINGOBE said the Agency has also successfully distributed 100 percent of medicines and medical supplies from the Mop-Up exercises to all facilities in Lusaka and Southern Provinces while other provinces are still receiving their portion of the commodity
