Mduduzi Mdantsane may still be finding his feet at Kaizer Chiefs, but head coach Molefi Ntseki does not feel that his national team call-up is a surprise.
The former Cape Town City midfielder has been included as late call-up in the Bafana Bafana squad as a replacement for Egyptian-based Percy Tau, who pulled out of the team ahead of the friendly internationals against Eswatini and Ivory Coast.

Mdantsane has made 10 appearances in all competitions for the Soweto giants, contributing with two assists. While there are questions over his selection in the national team, Ntseki has suggested it’s not only form that comes into play when including a player in the squad. After all, Ntseki has been at the helm of the national team in the past and would know what he is talking about.
“The most important thing is that it depends on the coaching style of Bafana Bafana. What are they looking for? What type of players do they want to bring into the team? I think in terms of his qualities, he fits into what the coaches are looking for and that’s why Mdu has managed to get a call-up. We can only wish him the best of luck in the national team,” Ntseki said on the former Baroka FC captain.
Chiefs, meanwhile, have been drawn to play against AmaZulu in the last 16 of the Carling Knockout competition, which was launched in Johannesburg on Tuesday afternoon. The competition comes in as a replacement for the Telkom Knockout.

“We need to compliment the PSL and the sponsor to have brought another cup into our league. As Kaizer Chiefs, we are looking forward to doing well in these cup games. AmaZulu are a good side. We’ve played them at FNB, so we want to strike (a good) balance between performance and results. This will be one game where we will be looking to create that balance,” Ntseki said.
