Bafana Bafana’s Grant Kekana and Aubrey Modiba have stressed the need for an exceptional performance against Nigeria in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) semi-final.

The crucial match is scheduled to take place at Stade de la Paix in Bouaké, Ivory Coast, on Wednesday.

Eagerly anticipating the clash, Kekana, who has established a formidable defensive partnership with Mamelodi Sundowns teammate Mothobi Mvala, acknowledges the challenge Nigeria poses.

He highlighted the significance of bringing their best effort to secure South Africa’s first Afcon final appearance since 1998.

“It’s going to be a tough encounter,” Kekana told the South African Football Association’s media team.

“We can’t wait to play. I think it’s going to be a good game to watch.”

Modiba, having played every minute of Bafana’s campaign thus far, stressed the need for thorough preparation and determination.

He pointed out the general perception that Nigeria was the favourite, adding an extra layer of difficulty for Bafana.

“We need to apply ourselves so that we can win this game,” Modiba said.

The match is also set to highlight the goalkeeping talents of both teams, with Ronwen Williams of Bafana Bafana and Stanley Nwabili of Nigeria, both of whom play in the Premier Soccer League and have impressively kept four clean sheets in five games during the tournament.
