WashU’s Child Malnutrition Therapy Undergoes Global Trials

A mother and her child in Kurigram, Bangladesh, participated in a clinical trial of a microbiome-directed food designed to nurture beneficial gut microbes and treat childhood malnutrition. The supplementary food – developed at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis – is now being evaluated in major randomized controlled trials funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and carried out in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF.
