UAE’s First Waste-To-Energy Plant Begins Testing

Construction on the UAE’s first waste-to-energy (WtE) plant is complete, with the project now entering the test and commissioning phase.

Operator Emirates Waste to Energy Company (EWEC) says the 30MW plant in Sharjah will divert 300,000 tons/year of waste from landfill and “enable Sharjah to become the Middle East’s first zero-waste city.” The plant, developed by Abu Dhabi state utility Adpower, incorporates moving grate technology to process and burn waste to drive a steam turbine generator set (CONTINUED – 176 WORDS)
