Pirates now favourites to beat Chiefs to top target, here’s how!

Orlando Pirates are now believed to be favourites for a well-reported Kaizer Chiefs transfer target for next season!

Stanley Nwabali was impressive for Nigeria at Afcon, attracting interest from Pirates and European clubs in addition to Chiefs.

Nwabali, who currently plies his trade for Chippa United, was a surprise inclusion as first choice for Nigeria at Afcon. This was due to the fact that he had only one cap for the Super Eagles prior to the showpiece. He would end up playing all seven games for Nigeria in Ivory Coast, keeping four clean sheets. He also played a huge role in the team finishing as runners-up at the tournament. That also saw his name and reputation skyrocket, with more European clubs reportedly on his radar, making things difficult for Chiefs.

According to reports from earlier in the week, Pirates are looking to go toe-to-toe with Chiefs for Nwabali. Furthermore, they may already have a master plan to win the tussle, as per Soccer-Laduma

Pirates ready to swap Ofori for Nwabali

“Pirates’ interest in Stanley Nwabali is growing and there is a possibility of him signing there at the end of the season. It could be cash plus player deal. Should the deal happen, Ofori is a player he might be swapped with. But the player and his camp may also listen to overseas offers,” said the source.

Chiefs out of the race?

Earlier in the month, this publication reported that Chiefs had decided to pull out of a deal for Nwabali. The club believe the asking price is too expensive and would rather groom their own replacement from within. In the same report, it was claimed that Pirates were lurking and ready to make a move. It now looks as if they’re about to do just that.

Pirates currently have a stacked goalkeeping department, but their fans have often viewed it as quantity over quality. They currently boast the likes of Sipho ChaineMelusi Buthelezi, Ofori and Siyabonga Mpontshane. Chaine emerged as their first choice after a stellar second half of the previous season. He then came into the current campaign, still carrying the tag of number one. After getting injured, Buthelezi then took over. With there already being healthy competition in the Buccaneers camp, it remains to be seen if Nwabali would even consider the move.
