Queen’s Baton finally Arrives in Ghana on relay Journey around the World

The historic Queen’s Baton has safely landed in Accra, Ghana from Free Town, Sierra Leone. On Monday 25th October, Mr. Alie Gibrill Koroma, a member of the Commonwealth Games Association of Sierra Leone brought the Queen’s Baton, presented it to the President of the Commonwealth Games Association Ghana, Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah at the VIP lounge of the Kotoka International Airport. The Baton carrying Her Majesty's message to the Commonwealth began its journey to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games with a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on 7th October 2021. Mr Nunoo Mensah who is also President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, said the Queen's message will be read aloud at the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games next year, but first, it will travel to 72 Commonwealth territories and nations, connecting communities over 90,000 miles The message was placed inside the specially designed Baton before being handed to the first Baton-bearer of the 294 day relay: Paralympian Kadeena Cox. The GOC President has assured that Ghana would create an exciting atmosphere befitting the Queen’s Baton. CAF boss: Ghana must bid for AFCON

CAF boss: Ghana must bid for AFCON President for the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, has asked Ghana to put in a bid to host the Africa Cup of Nations tournament. The CAF President disclosed in a press briefing that he had suggested to the President Nana Akufo-Addo for Ghana to host the AFCON which, he said comes with a lot of economic benefits and development. “I will like to see Ghana put in a bid to host the African Cup so we can come back. So there are ongoing proposals to host it.” Ghana has previously hosted the Africa Cup of Nations on three occasions in 1978, 2000 (joint host with Nigeria) and 2008. The CAF boss was in the country for a two-day visit last week and was among the guest speakers at the Youth Connekt Summit held in Accra. Maldives signs MOU with Emirates to promote tourism

Maldives has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Emirates to promote the island nation as a tourist destination and boost arrivals from key markets across the airline’s network.  The MOU between the Maldivian Tourism Ministry, Visit Maldives and Emirates was signed in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Monday.  The signing was witnessed by Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who is on an official visit to UAE.  According to Visit Maldives, the MOU pertains to cooperation in Emirate’s operations between Maldives and Dubai for public travel benefits, promotion of Maldives’ tourism and development of traffic into Maldives from key markets across Emirates’ network.
