Nigeria’s Kenneth Omeruo stresses focus ahead of AFCON quarter-final against Angola

Nigeria’s defender, Kenneth Omeruo, has emphasized the team’s commitment to letting their performance on the pitch do the talking when they face Angola in the quarter-finals of the AFCON 2023.

After eliminating Cameroon with a 2-0 victory, the Super Eagles are set to clash with the Palancas Negras on Friday. Omeruo, maintaining a serious tone, highlighted the team’s focus and readiness for what he expects to be a significant challenge against Angola.

Speaking in an interview, Omeruo stated, “We have absolutely no need to go into back-and-forth chatter with any team. The Super Eagles are in Cote d’Ivoire for serious business.”

Reflecting on the upcoming match against Angola, Omeruo noted the historical competitiveness of their encounters. He emphasized that, despite not facing Angola for a long time, the Super Eagles are prepared for a tough game.

“There is no possibility of Friday’s match ending in a draw; a winner must emerge. So much talk has been going on; however, our collective resolve is to do the talking on the pitch. The Nigeria Spirit trumps all,” Omeruo asserted.

Acknowledging the initial skepticism after drawing their first match against Equatorial Guinea, Omeruo pointed out the team’s growing confidence with victories over Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroon.

He stressed the importance of continued hard work, self-belief, and a strong team effort as they aim for success in the tournament.

The quarter-final match between Nigeria and Angola is scheduled for Friday, February 2, at 6 pm Ghana time at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium.
