Worlds first booksellers conference held in Sharjah, UAE


The event is taking place in Sharjah, UAE and it is the world’s first International Booksellers Conference which has convened around 385 distributors, booksellers, publishers, and business consultants from 56 countries. The main topic of discussion was current and future trends in bookselling.

The President of the International Publishers Association, Bodour Al Qaisimi assured booksellers by saying that they are not alone in the efforts and hard work they take to promote the book reading culture in their respective communities.

“Publishers will support you in this mission” she added noting that the industry will extend its full support to ensure that booksellers are able to continue achieving greater results- quoted by Khaleej Times.

Bodour Al Qasimi also expressed that the forum will exhibit Sharjah’s focus on backing every link of the book industry chain. This strategy will be used to cultivate a good and strong culture of reading in the Emirate.

HE Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, the chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), welcomed the guests and attendees and said, “Through organising the worlds first-of-its-kind conference, we look forward to offering a platform for networking and exchange, as we implement the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr, Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah to support the book industry and its contributors to shaping our future”
