The Golden Eaglets are facing a premature elimination from the U17 AFCON qualifiers in Togo after they were held to a 1-1 draw by rivals Ghana in their match that ended few minutes ago.

The U-17 side had lost 0-1 to Cote D’Ivoire in their first game during the week.
Meanwhile, if Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire end their next game in the group in a draw or a win for Ghana, Nigeria will be out of the competition.

Only a win for the Ivorians will give the Eaglets a chance to go through to the knockout rounds, while a draw will see Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire advance, just as was the case at the U20 AFCON qualifiers in Benin last month.

Both teams got their goal through the penalty spot in the dying minutes of the game: Nigeria in the 83rd minutes when substitute Joseph Arumala took the shot that resulted from a fouls against Abdullahi Ahmed, inside the box the box. Soon after goalie Destiny Emuwahen fouled a Ghanaian forward and could not save the ensuing kick
