The UAE will now use dogs and modern technology to detect drugs and explosives arriving at ports.
The ‘Ras Cargo’ project has been launched by the Federal Customs Authority and involves several stages.
At first, samples are collected from the air from any closed storage unit by means of modern technical devices.
This is followed by analyzation of the filters using k9 customs dogs in the analysis room. The next stage involves making decisions and recording data in the control room.
Ali Saeed Al Niyadi, Commissioner of Customs and Chairman of the Authority, said that the United Arab Emirates is the first country in the world to implement this new technology in the detection of narcotic substances, indicating that this technology is a unique method of examining trucks, goods and closed mechanisms.
