A high street travel agent has reopened for the first time since lockdown after seeing a boom in bookings to Tenerife, Turkey and Dubai.

Barrhead Travel, which opened in Newcastle in January 2020, is now open for customers who want to physically visit its Castle Walk store following 12 months of remote working.

The reopening comes as the company sees a boom in business from holiday-makers rushing to book their first post-pandemic getaway, with destinations including New York and Orlando also proving popular.

Store manager Hayley Nixon says people are desperate to book foreign holidays as the vaccine roll-out and restrictions continue to ease in England.

She says most holiday-makers are booking for summer 2022, but that enquiries for this summer have started to increase in tandem with lockdown restrictions easing.

Barrhead Travel has also seen an increase in staycations and UK cruises for late spring.

Hayley said: “It feels great to be back on the high street and we can’t wait to welcome our customers, old and new, back to our store to help them plan their dream getaway.

“There has been a high demand for special holidays with multiple generations and groups of friends – it seems everyone is looking to reunite to make special memories and make up for lost time.
