To mark the ‘Year of the 50th’ Dubai Sports Council introduces special medals

The official celebrations to mark the 50th UAE National Day anniversary begun in the city last month when His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan last month declared 2021 as ‘The Year 50’, in the UAE, as the nation celebrates its milestone Golden Jubilee.

Soon after the declaration, the city coupled with the announcement of year-long initiatives, activities, and grand celebrations. With a vision for the next 50 years, the region has been gearing up.

So, with the UAE turning 50 this year, the Dubai Sports Council has introduced new commemorative medals to mark the momentous occasion. With the ‘Year of the 50th’ officially kicking off from April 6, the merriments will run for a year until March 31, 2022.

To celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the country’s formation in 1971, the new medals, which have the ‘Year of the Fiftieth’ written on them, have been specially minted by Dubai Sports Council. These medals will be awarded for achievements at upcoming sports events supported and organised by the organisation. The new medals will be like a marking of the year in the sports sector.

While the new medals mark a way to commemorate the Golden Jubilee Year, this is not the first time to Dubai Sports Council has found a way to celebrate the UAE and Dubai.

The Council, last year minted medals that celebrated the efforts of Dubai’s frontline heroes in the fight to contain COVID-19. The medal had engravings of Dubai Police, Dubai Civil Defence, Dubai Health Authority and the First Responders of Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services.

Even in the past Dubai Sports Council’s medals have had iconic etchings to commemorate special cultural and tourist landmarks in the region. Some of them include Dubai Frame and Burj Khalifa, the Museum of the Future and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, alongside Hamdan Sports Complex, Tolerance Bridge and the Al Marmoom Conservation Reserve among others.
