The Kansas City Downtown Rotary Club 13 Announces Sailing Regatta to Benefit 100-Year-Old Rotary Youth Camp for Disadvantaged and Disabled Kids
To raise funds for the Kansas Rotary Youth Camp for the disadvantaged and physically challenged youth of Kansas City, Club 13 is organizing a new fundraiser!
It will be the First Annual Rotary Youth Camp Sailing Regatta, and Rotary is inviting corporations to participate as Corporate Sponsors of the boats racing. The regatta will be held on Lake Jacomo on September 24, 2022. The event is more than who wins the race on the water. It’s about continuing to provide a truly life-changing camp experience for kids!
With the participation of the Jacomo Sailing Club and the Jackson County Parks & Recreation Department, Rotary 13 will host the event consisting of 15-20 sailboats that will compete for a Rotary Youth Camp Regatta Championship Trophy over one day of racing. There are various levels of sponsorship, and the goal of the event is to raise $75,000.
The Rotary Youth Camp is the signature project of the Kansas City Downtown Rotary Club and was founded nearly 100 years ago. It has provided a life-changing camp experience to over 300,000 disadvantaged and disabled youth from the Greater Kansas City area. Each year approximately 3,000 campers benefit from a camping experience. Located along the shores of Lake Jacomo, the Rotary Youth Camp’s fully accessible grounds feature cabins, tent camping, a mess hall, a newly opened Health and Admin building, a nature trail, and a wheelchair-accessible swimming pool that allows boys and girls with special needs to take part in outdoor activities.
With the support of donors and community partners, the 40-acre camp welcomes non-profit groups to host camps regardless of race, income, age, gender or disability. All services are available free of charge to campers and their sponsoring organizations. The annual operating budget of the camp is $350,000 and growing.
