Polish, UAE FMs discuss economic ties, Ukraine war

Zbigniew Rau and Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al–Nahyan met in the Polish capital Warsaw on Thursday, state news agency PAP reported.

At a joint news conference afterwards, Poland’s top diplomat said that the two countries “continue to develop friendly ties” despite pandemic-related restrictions.

Rau added that Poland’s participation in the EXPO 2020 world fair in Dubai “energised our relations in many fields.”

Bilateral trade and economic cooperation

Poland’s top diplomat noted “the fast growth of trade between our countries,” according to the Polish foreign ministry.

According to Rau, besides traditional trade, Poland seeks “to work with the UAE on energy, digital technology and environmental protection, as well as pursue investment in the Gulf state.”

He said that the UEA regarded Poland as one of its 10 key economic partners for the next 50 years.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al–Nahyan said that trade between the UAE and Poland, excluding oil, totaled USD 1.4 billion in 2021, a 10 percent rise on the previous year.

He added that new bilateral agreements had been struck “to expand economic cooperation and foster investment.”

Ukraine war

The two foreign ministers also discussed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and ongoing support for Poland’s eastern neighbour, reporters were told.

“I thanked Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al–Nahyan for the UAE’s humanitarian assistance to Ukraine,” Rau said.

Thursday was day 92 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
