June 1 (Renewables Now) – Abu Dhabi Airports and renewables developer Masdar have finalised the installation of 3 MW of solar PV panels to shade a car park at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Masdar, also known as Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC, delivered a full turnkey solution for the project via its Energy Services department, including financing, design, procurement and construction.

The renewables company said the project used 7,542 solar panels, which were installed on the car shading at the short-term car park of the Midfield Terminal. The grid-connected canopies will power the car park facility, while the surplus electricity will fed to other sections of the airport.

Under the terms of the lease agreement, Masdar will perform operation and maintenance for 25 years.

Hailed as Abu Dhabi’s largest solar-powered car park, the panel array will save 5,300 tonnes of CO2 per year, according to Masdar.
