GIPC boss woos UAE investors


The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Investments Promotion Centre (GIPC), Yofi Grant has called on the businesses community in Dubai to consider Ghana as their ‘strategic market’ destination in Africa.

Mr Grant while speaking at a signing ceremony to mark the Expo 2020 Dubai UAE summit on Thursday stated that the Ghanaian Government is encouraging Dubai investors to take advantage of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to expand their businesses on the continent.

He said Ghana has positioned itself as the most suitable investment capital of the continent, where businesses are protected and given equal opportunity to thrive.

“If you come to Ghana and you are exporting to the continent, it is tariff free due to the AfCFTA, not only that,  we in Ghana have taken it upon ourselves that we reposition the relevant reforms and attraction opportunities to ensure that happens in a seamless way”

Mr Yofi added that not only does Ghana have enabling environment for businesses to thrive, but it has vast and diverse natural resources as well as one of the highest capital rate in Africa.

According to the GIPC boss, Ghana is a gateway for UAE companies to enter attractive West and African markets, with both countries already maintaining good economic relations, with the opening of the office of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce in 2015.

He also added that Ghana will take advantage of this year’s expo in Dubai to rekindle investments into its economy, while also assisting in the restoration of the economic growth as the country recovers from the covid-19 pandemic.

“We are not only here for trade, we are here to embrace each other’s cultures -way of life, as we speak about business, we have a very vibrant and colourful pavilion that I will urge everybody to look at.”

Yaw Osafo-Marfo, Senior Presidential Advisor urged the GIPC to deepen the relations between the two countries by “selling Ghana and marketing AfCFTA”.

Mr. Yaw Kwakwa, Managing Director, Ghana Airports Company Limited said it is the vision of government to make its airport an aviation hub and is thus seeking partnerships across the world.

He stated that government wants to transform Ghana into a logistics hub.

According to him, already clearing of cargo had been streamlined and “we want to invite the world to come to Ghana to do business, we are improving on infrastructure at the airports.”

Mr. Mohsen Ahmad, CEO Logistics, Dubai South stated that the two countries have same objectives of strengthening trade ties and touted government’s ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ agenda which he said showed how serious government was involved in the processes.

He also added that the signing of the MoU aims to create an attractive environment for SMEs, bilateral trade and investments.

“I hope this event ignites new ideas, we look forward to even more Ghanaian companies to facilitate investments from Dubai to Ghana.”

The Expo 2020 Dubai UAE event is a global platform to attract investments, forge agreements and promote international co-operation, with close to 192 countries representing, withlimitless business opportunities.
