Germany as the Guest of Honour at Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2022

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 25 May 2022: Germany
was chosen as this year’s Abu Dhabi International Book Fair Guest of Honour. A
reception was held last night at Rotana Beach Hotel Abu Dhabi where the German
Ambassador in Abu Dhabi H.E. Peter Fisher was in attendance and delivered a
speech.

In the presence of 200 intellectuals and titles, and guests of
ADIBF from Germany and UAE, he addressed the strong diplomatic relations
between both countries for 50 years and has recognized the successes it brought
on all fields especially in culture. H.E. Peter Fischer has also extended his
gratitude to Abu Dhabi for choosing Germany as the Guest of Honour for ADIBF
2022.

From 23rd to 29th of May 2022, the German pavilion
located at Hall 8 B05 will be showcasing titles from 34 German publishers who
will also be participating at the fair’s programme. Germany’s presence this
year focuses on interactive programme for children and young people. Goethe’s
tragedy Faust in Parts I and II will be exhibited in the stand with VR goggles
and other tools available to let visitors actively and virtually experience
this classic German literature.

“This year, Germany and the United Arab Emirates are celebrating 50
years of diplomatic relations. We have become reliable, important partners for
each other. The next 50 years will bring new opportunities – in the cultural,
as well as the economic and political spheres. Germany’s selection as this
year’s Guest of Honour at Abu Dhabi International Book Fair underscores the
depth and the potential of our relations in the cultural realm,” H.E. Peter Fischer
said.

President and CEO of Frankfurter Buchmesse, Mr. Juergen Boos has
also paid a visit at the German pavilion and said, “We are very pleased to
finally be able to present our German Stories programme at Abu Dhabi
International Book Fair (ADIBF) in person. ADIBF is a relevant annual platform
for the international rights and licensing business and for making new contacts
in the Arab world. We’re very pleased that in a few days, together with our
partners, we’ll be presenting a diverse programme at ADIBF and meeting up once
again with publishing colleagues from around the world.”

In celebration of the 50 years of diplomatic relations between UAE
and Germany and as this year’s Abu Dhabi International Book Fair Guest of
Honour, the German Pavilion was organized by the German Federal Ministry for
Economic Affairs and Climate Action – the same organization responsible for
coordinating and financing the renowned “Campus Germany” at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA), Leipziger Messe
International (LMI), Frankfurter Buchmesse, Germany’s Federal Foreign Office,
Goethe-Institut in the Gulf Region, and the German Embassy in Abu Dhabi have
all supported the appearance of Germany at this year’s ADIBF.
