(ANSAmed) – ROME, APRIL 23 – While the start of Expo 2020 Dubai draws nearer, Italy is preparing to present on Tuesday its pavilion which has been completed in its eternal part with three hulls forming a record-setting tricolor. The occasion will be an event with Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, followed by a ceremony at the construction site of the installation, where “the most accurate reproduction ever made of the David of Michelangelo”, according to organizers, will also be presented.

In order to create the sculpture, some of the major 3D printers available in Italy were used and part of the creation was made with material obtained by recycling plastic bottles.

Just five months before the start of the first universal exhibition of the Arab world, scheduled on October 1, for the first time the three overturned hulls in green, white and red will be unveiled. They will cover the pavilion creating “the largest tricolor ever made in the history of our country”, organizers said.

In addition, David’s ‘twin’ will be unveiled for the first time. It was placed over the past few days in the pavilion as part of the project led by the commissioner for Italy’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai, the museum of the Accademia Gallery in Florence and the ministry of culture in collaboration with the department of civil and environmental engineering of the University of Florence.

The event, with Di Maio, will be attended also by Florence Mayor Dario Nardella, the commissioner for Italy’s participation at the Dubai Expo, Paolo Glisenti, the authors of the pavilion’s project, Carlo Ratti and Italo Rota, and its artistic director Davide Rampello. Cecile Hollberg, director of the Accademia Gallery in Florence, where the original David is on display, will also intervene, as well as Professor Grazia Tucci of the University of Florence who led the project to reproduce Michelangelo’s masterpiece.
