MIAMI – Emirates Airlines (EK) has an optimistic view on recovery and expects to reach a 70% capacity mark by the 2021 winter season as is set to take full advantage of the delayed Expo 2020, now taking place in Dubai (DBX) between October 2021 and March 2022.

According to The National News business page, during a press conference held on the occasion of the forthcoming Arabian Travel Market, EK Chief Commercial Officer, Adnan Kazim, has indicated that “We already have a plan to get back to almost 70 percent of our capacity to be recovered by winter 2021” citing that the airline is already increasing capacity, serving 120 destinations which represent 85% of its pre-Covid network.

Emirates is banking on the Expo 2020 event, taking place in DBX, and is boosting capacity to meet the travel requirements that this major event will create.

On this subject, Adnan Kazim added, “The future will be much brighter in terms of the recovery and things will look better, particularly we’re aiming for major events happening in Dubai like Expo 2020 and that’s exactly what we’re mapping capacity and the network to meet that requirement for the Expo to be a successful event”.

Emirates Fleet

Emirates is already rebuilding its network and all its Boeing 777 fleet is currently flying, also taking full advantage of the cargo space request during the ongoing health crisis. In addition, plans are underway to reintroduce the Airbus 380, beginning with approximately 40 aircraft out of a fleet of 118 flown by EK in pre-Covid times.

Furthermore, the carrier sees a sustained demand for “visit friends and family” as well as premium business class travel, the latter being driven by the advantage of more space and distancing while on board during these pandemic times.
