One of the new features that debuted with iOS 14 is App Clips. This lets developers create a smaller part of the app that can be used when needed. It enables you to experience any app by scanning a code and readily using it without installing the entire application.
While developers are still taking time in developing App Clips for their apps, residents of Dubai who use an iPhone running iOS 14 and above and now experience it through the RTA app. Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has an official app where you can view different information about public and private transport. It also includes a way for you to pay for parking using Apple Pay or credits loaded on your RTA account.
I was using a new smartphone and did not have the RTA app installed, as I was in a hurry I decided to just pay my parking ticket with coins but as I walked towards the parking metre, a sign showed that I can use App Clips to use the RTA app and pay for parking.
I did just that. I scanned the QR code printed on the parking metre and it opened a page where I can pay for the parking details after entering my details. What makes it more convenient is that I no longer need to use coins since I can use Apple Pay to pay for the ticket.
RTA said that the feature is available in English and Arabic, and mentioned that more than 70 per cent of public parking spaces already utilize the feature. It is just one of the ways in how RTA uses the power of technology in enhancing its services.
“RTA is always keen on developing the best strategies and means of bringing more happiness to all community members and enhancing their satisfaction with RTA’s smart services by counting on cutting-edge and smart technologies,” it said in a statement.
