Abu Dhabi International Airport launches new competition for UAE artists with the question; ‘How will we travel in the future?’

One question, numerous answers –How will we travel in the future? Ever since the pandemic hit us last year, borders were compelled to close. Flights stopped and travelling took a pause, all in consideration of social distancing.

But now as things gradually fall back into place and individuals adjust to the new normal, one thing amongst the others that undergone change is the way we travel. Thus, to give a creative twist to the thought, Abu Dhabi International Airport has launched a UAE-wide competition –#ArtPortChallenge that are in lines with ‘How will we travel in the future?’

The competition calls for artists and amateurs of any nationality and anyone above the age of 6 to express the thought through their creative works. Participants can use formats like technical drawing, collage, graphics, painting, computer drawing etc. for the challenge.

The competition has been divided into three categories — children, teenagers, and adults of which a total of nine winners will be chosen and their works will be exhibited across 70 outdoor billboards at the airport.

Not just that, the winners will also get an opportunity to showcase their work at the French Pavilion during Expo 2020 Dubai in October.

The contest has been organised by the Institut Francais in the UAE, advertising company JCDecaux, Abu Dhabi Airports Company and BB Media.

“The competition aims to encourage cultural creation and to foster the emergence of talents while highlighting aspects of ‘culture, art and innovation’, which are major themes that will be displayed at the French Pavilion during Dubai Expo,” said Xavier Chatel, French ambassador to the UAE.

The applications must be submitted to the Institut Francais via email before June 26, the winners of which, will be announced via an opening ceremony on French National Day, i.e. July 14. The day also marks the 50th anniversary of the Emirati-French friendship.
