Namibia Unleashes Talent at the 47th WorldSkills Competition in France!

Namibia is making waves on the international stage as it sends a talented team of 14 representatives to the prestigious 47th WorldSkills International Competition in Lyon, France. This elite gathering, a pinnacle in technical and vocational skill competitions, showcases some of the brightest minds and hands-on talent from all around the globe. From September 10 to 15, Namibia’s team, hailing from seven regions across the country, will compete in various disciplines that highlight their skills and craftsmanship.

In an exclusive update from Lyon, Emil Seibeb of Africazine caught up with Beatha Shinana, a distinguished expert in fashion technology and a crucial member of the judging panel at this year’s event. Shinana’s insights shed light on the importance of this competition for young professionals and the commitment Namibia has made to fostering homegrown talent.

This year’s event is particularly exciting, as over 1,700 participants from different countries are set to compete, showcasing a wide array of skills. Among the 27 representatives in the Fashion Technology category is Namibia’s very own Shinana, who brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. Her role not only involves judging but also mentoring the competitors, ensuring they’re well-prepared for the challenges ahead.

As the competition nears kickoff, participants are undergoing critical assessments. “We are currently engaged in mandatory evaluations,” Shinana explains. “This process involves training on how to assess every aspect effectively. We will also demonstrate how we plan to assess the various activities that have taken place thus far.” Moreover, participants will have a familiarization day where they can get accustomed to the equipment they will be using, followed by an intensive six-hour practice session.

WorldSkills plays a transformative role in empowering vocational talents. By facilitating opportunities like this competition, it nurtures a global community where professionals can connect, share knowledge, and inspire one another. In this spirit, Namibia is not just a competitor but a contributor to this vibrant global network, highlighting the significance of skilled trade in economic development and youth empowerment.

As the anticipation builds, all eyes are on Namibia and its future stars. This event is not just about competition; it is about showcasing potential, innovation, and the remarkable skills that young Africans possess. Let us cheer for Namibia as it takes its place on the world stage!
