Monare says Bafana players have developed a brotherhood at the AFCON tournament

By Ayanda Nyuswa

Bafana Bafana midfielder Thabang Monare believes the South African squad has developed a good brotherhood in Cote D’Ivoire at the on-going 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which has helped in improving performances on the field. Monare spoke to the SAFA media team ahead of their highly anticipated quaterfinal clash against Cape Verde in Yamoussoukro on Saturday. The Hugo Broos led side is fresh off an impressive 2-0 win over top ranked African team Morocco, which has seen them repeat the feat achieved at the 2019 AFCON when they reached the last eight.

“It’s been good, I think also it just gathered us together to see the brotherhood and learn more about one another. I think we are becoming more than just a team that just wants to play football, we are becoming more aware of one another as people off the field,” the midfielder commented.

Monare also spoke about Cape Verde who now stand in their way for a place in the last four of the continental showpiece.

“It’s a very tough team, I think the more we progress the harder its gonna get. We have watched their games and they are a team that is willing to work very hard, and if you are playing against that kind of a team you need to be on your A game also. They really wanna work hard and we have to not match that, we have to beat that”, Monare said.

Bafana vs Cape Verde will take place on Saturday 3 February, 22:00 at the Stade Charles Konan Banny de Yamoussoukro
