Ivory Coast: Didier Drogba’s candidacy validated

The electoral commission of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) validated Friday the candidacy for the presidency of the federation of the former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba. The 44-year-old Ivorian’s file was retained by the FIF like those of two other candidates, Idriss Diallo and Sory Diabaté. According to the Ivorian press, Drogba would not necessarily be the favorite for this election because he does not have the support of local clubs.

The place of president of the FIF has been left vacant since December 2020, the date on which FIFA placed the Ivorian federation under guardianship. The new president will be elected on April 23, the day of the election. If elected, the former OM center-forward could, like Samuel Eto’o with Cameroon this year, start his term with a CAN at home since the 2023 African Cup of Nations will take place in Côte of ivory.
