IEC Chairman Engages in Insightful Talks on Election Readiness with Arab Women Organization Delegation

Jordan Prepares for Landmark 2024 Parliamentary Elections with a Focus on Women’s Empowerment

AMMAN — As Jordan gears up for its pivotal 2024 parliamentary elections, the Chairman of the Independent Election Commission (IEC), Musa Maaytah, recently convened a significant meeting with a delegation from the Arab Women Organization. This collaboration aims to solidify strategies for monitoring the upcoming elections, marking another step in Jordan’s progressive political journey.

The delegation, led by the esteemed Maj. Gen. Rifaat Qumsan, included representatives from several Arab nations, such as Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Iraq, and Lebanon. Their presence underscores a united commitment to enhancing electoral processes throughout the region. During the meeting, Maaytah welcomed the delegates warmly at the IEC headquarters, reflecting Jordan’s open and inclusive approach to regional cooperation in governance and electoral integrity.

Maaytah took the opportunity to spotlight Jordan’s persistent strides toward political modernization. He pointed to recent legislative changes that have made a notable impact on increasing women’s representation in the Lower House. This initiative not only aims to amplify women’s voices in decision-making processes but also aligns with broader regional aspirations for gender equality in governance.

In support of these reforms, Maaytah emphasized the vital role of the IEC’s Women Empowerment Department. This department collaborates closely with the National Committee for Women’s Affairs and other influential partners to elevate women’s roles in public life and encourage leadership positions. By fostering an environment that prioritizes women’s participation, Jordan is setting an example for other nations in the region.

As the countdown to the elections approaches, preparations are in full swing. For the first time, the IEC is set to unveil a cutting-edge online platform that will offer real-time updates on election results. This transparency ensures that the Jordanian public can stay informed and engaged throughout the electoral process, enhancing trust in the system.

Additionally, Maaytah reiterated the commitment of the IEC to inclusivity, emphasizing that polling stations have been made accessible for individuals with disabilities. Special provisions are in place to assist pregnant women and others who may require additional support, ensuring that every eligible voter can exercise their right to participate.

The visiting delegation praised Jordan’s IEC for its dedication to transparency and collaboration with international election observers. This cooperative spirit reflects a bright future for democracy in Jordan, where every voice matters.

As Jordanians prepare to cast their votes, the world watches closely, hopeful for a robust and democratic electoral process that emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and representation.
