Abha Club head and former Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has heaped praise on midfielder Teboho Mokoena who delivered a Man of the Match performance as Bafana Bafana beat Morocco in the last 16 of the AFCON.

South Africa sealed a spot in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) currently underway in Ivory Coast thanks to second half goals from Evidence Makgopa and Teboho Mokoena.

The latter was awarded the Man of the Match award for his efforts and Mosimane wasted to time taking to social media to express his admirations for the industrial midfielder.

“Teboho Mokoena! What a player. The free-kick he scored, was just the icing on the cake! He stepped on every grass leaf on the pitch,” Mosimane wrote in X (formerly Twitter).

“Bossing the midfield. No arguments, SA is one of the most tactically disciplined team in the tournament.

“No frills, just grinding.”

Mokoena has been one for the most relied on players for Bafana Bafana in Hugo Broos’ tenure and one of the players who have played every minute of South Africa’s four matches at the AFCON.

The 27-year-old also received praised from coach the Belgian mentor.

“We have players as you said, we have Themba Zwane who was two times player of the match, today Teboho [Mokoena], that means that we are good as a team and that we have some players that can make a difference and this is important,” Broos said after the match.

“Like today (Tuesday), fantastic free-kick from Teboho, a nice ball from Makgopa.”

Up next for Mokoena and co. is a quarter-final clash against Cape Verde to be played on Saturday night. Kick-off is at 22:00.
