Egyptian & Chinese FMs to Hold Joint Press Conference at Tahrir Palace

Sat 13 Jan 2024 | 03:22 PM

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry is set to welcome Wang Yi, the Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, this Sunday at the Egyptian Foreign Ministry headquarters in the Tahrir Palace. The meeting is poised to include joint discussions and the signing of documents, followed by a joint press conference.

Wang Yi’s arrival in Cairo is part of a broader tour that includes visits to Egypt, Tunisia, Togo, and Côte d’Ivoire. This visit signifies the continuing diplomatic engagement and cooperation between Egypt and China, two nations that have been strengthening their bilateral relations in recent years.

This upcoming event underscores the growing strategic partnership between Egypt and China, reflecting a deepening of ties in various sectors, including trade, investment, and cultural exchange. Egypt, with its strategic location and status as a pivotal Middle Eastern and African country, is a key partner for China in its Belt and Road Initiative, a global development strategy adopted by the Chinese government to enhance regional connectivity and embrace a brighter shared future.

For China, strengthening ties with countries like Egypt is part of its broader foreign policy approach to expand its influence in the Middle East and Africa. Egypt, on the other hand, views its relationship with China as a cornerstone of its foreign policy, aimed at diversifying its international alliances and fostering economic development.
