Egypt Releases Goods worth more than $8 Billion | Sada Elbalad

Egyptian Finance Minister Mohamed Maait said on Friday that customs had released goods with a total value of more than $8 billion since March.

Maait said in a statement that the ministry is working with all state agencies to “confront any import practices that lead to the accumulation of goods at the ports, as any goods left by their owners at the ports beyond the prescribed legal periods are dealt with decisively.”

He added that although dollar resources are available in banks, “some importers have refrained from releasing their shipments without legal justification, and those importers who refrain from releasing their shipments without any legal reason or justification are being dealt with with all seriousness.”
