Dubai Initiative for Sustainability, the initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council last February, announced the success of the joint efforts of residents and visitors, with clear participation from various sectors of society at the level of individuals or institutions, in reducing the Use of more than 1 million disposable plastic bottles with a capacity of 500ml.
After 100 days of launch, the initiative succeeded in reducing the use of 1,077,474 disposable plastic bottles in collaboration with partners and stakeholders, the public and in various areas of the city.

The achievement of this achievement coincides with the occasion of “World Oceans Day”, which falls on June 8 every year, and is dedicated to celebrating the efforts and achievements of governments, companies, scientific communities and activists who have promised to achieve fourteenth goal of sustainable development by 2030, which is to conserve and use the oceans, oceans and marine resources optimally to achieve sustainable development.
The initiative continues to achieve its goals of installing 50 units to distribute clean drinking water throughout the emirate until the end of December 2022, as it has so far managed to distribute 40 units in the most prominent destinations, landmarks, tourist attractions, parks and public gardens, as part of the emirate’s commitment to achieving the sustainable development goals it set. The United Nations, as well as reaffirming Dubai’s position as a preferred destination for life, work and visits, in addition to working to provide the opportunity to refill beverages water for all free of charge.

The Dubai Initiative for Sustainability has encouraged communities to make simple changes to their daily habits, such as using refillable water bottles, taking advantage of free drinking water units in public places and installing water purifiers in homes, offices and schools.
