Descalzi, Eni grows in the energy transition – Energia & Energie

“The energy transition sectors are growing rapidly. Enilive (EniSustainable Mobility) has completed the joint venture of the Chalmette biorefinery in the USA and is evaluating other international projects to expand into biofuels. Plenitude is close to achieving its planned 3 GW of installed renewable capacity by the end of the year, as well as its profitability targets. The completion of the acquisition of Novamont will strengthen Versalis’ transformation into a green chemistry business. Added to this is the consolidation of our industry-leading portfolio of CCS (carbon capture and storage) solutions, thanks to the award of Hewett’s storage license in the UK and significant technical and regulatory advances.”
This was said by Eni’s CEO, Claudio Descalzi, commenting on the group’s Q3 2023 figures.
“In Exploration and Production (E&P),” Descalzi continued, “we are accelerating our plans to develop equity gas and LNG production. The extraordinary discovery of GengNorth-1, the industry-wide largest discovery of the year to date, the near-completion of the acquisition of Neptune and the purchase of Chevron’s assets in Indonesia put us in a position to access a huge volume of resources offshore the Kutei Basin.”
“In less than two years from the discovery, we started the production of the Baleine super field offshore the Ivory Coast,” said Descalzi, “a project capable of combining the objectives of energy security, guaranteeing the necessary traditional sources, with the decarbonization of operations, representing the first zero-emission project in Africa.” Eni, the CEO continued, “has substantially increased the contracted LNG portfolio, thanks to three new long-term agreements in Congo, Qatar and Indonesia, for a total volume of 6.5 billion cubic meters per year when fully operational.”
