Dove was selected as part of Mozambique’s 23-man squad for the continental showpiece which kicks off on 13 January.

Mozambique have been drawn in Group B alongside Ghana, Egypt and Cape Verde.

The 29-year-old defender is the only Amakhosi player to feature at the tournament, while Sibongiseni Mthethwa has been named as one of three standby players for Hugo Broos.

“I would have liked to see some of my teammates called into the national team, but at the end of the day, the coach is the right guy to decide who he wants to pick. I want to wish South Africa well and hope they do their country proud,” he told the club’s official website.

Dove has hinted that the upcoming AFCON could be his last for his national team and he is hoping to showcase his talent at the highest level.

“It is the first time we have qualified for 13 years so it is a big opportunity for us to do our best. I have been with the national team since 2014 and it is always an honour to represent my country.

“For some of us who are getting on a bit, it might be our last chance, so it is a good platform for every player to showcase his talent,” he continued.

Dove has made 10 appearances for Chiefs in all competitions this season.
