Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Japan Map Size Similar to Egypt in Origins

Ubisoft Quebec’s Simon Lemay-Comtois shared insights about the world map of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, comparing it to the map of Egypt in Assassin’s Creed Origins. During an interview with VGC, he mentioned that the Japanese setting in Shadows is roughly similar in size to Egypt in Origins, but smaller than Valhalla.

Lemay-Comtois explained the distinct geographical features of the game’s map. Unlike Odyssey’s Greece, which was half water, Japan’s map includes coastlines and a significant lake, Lake Biwa. The terrain is mountainous with interesting locations primarily in the valleys, although there are notable temples on mountain tops.

The game focuses on 16th century Japan, a period marked by the country’s path to unification. The story is set mainly in central Japan, covering important historical locations like Kyoto, Osaka, and Azuchi. The team aimed to make these castles and cities credible and engaging, ensuring the world feels like an adventure without overly long travel times between points.
