AFCON 2025: CAF, FIFA agree for tournament to hold in summer | Kemi Filani News

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) have agreed for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to be played in the summer.

Former France Football reporter, Hanif Ben Berkane, reports that there is the possibility it will hold between mid-July and mid-August in 2025.

The tournament is typically staged between January and February and has led to criticisms by owners of top European club owners and coaches.

Their argument is that the tournament is held in the thick of the European season.

The last time the AFCON was held in the summer was the 2019 edition in Egypt.

Following the agreement reached by CAF and FIFA, this would surely be a welcome development for European clubs.

Meanwhile, the qualifiers for the AFCON 2025 will begin in March 2024 with preliminary round.

Côte d’Ivoire won their third AFCON title after a 2-1 win against Nigeria in the final.
