During the second Most Noble Numbers charity auction, held at Abu Dhabi’s Emirates Palace, the special single-digit vehicle plate number 2 with code 2 sold for a record Dh23.3 million.
As reported by The Khaleej Times, the unique vehicle number ‘2’ sparked a bidding war that ended at Dh23,300,000 for the ‘1 Billion Meals’ initiative.
For the second time, special license plates and mobile phone numbers were auctioned off for charity. A total of Dh53 million was raised at the first auction held in Dubai on Saturday.
It was the du 0581111114 (Dh130,000), 0589999996 (Dh120,000), and Etisalat 0547444444 (Dh160,000) that got things going in Abu Dhabi’s auction (Dh100,000).
Two-digit vehicle plate number 11 with code 2, which sold for Dh5 million, set the tone. Then came the big battle for number 2. Halfway through the project funding has been reached with these bids.
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives’ (MBRGI) ‘1 Billion Meals’ initiative is the region’s largest food aid program for the underprivileged and undernourished.
Mohammad Al Gergawi, Secretary-General of MBRGI confirmed that the 1 Billion Meals initiative has raised Dh200 million in donations from 232,000 donors so far, which equates to 200 million meals. There were 220 million meals collected and distributed last year, so this brings the total to 420 million meals collected and distributed this year.
