Windhoek Sees Stellar N.2 Billion in Building Plan Approvals This Year!

Windhoek Sees Remarkable Growth in Building Approvals: A Positive Outlook for Namibia’s Construction Sector

The City of Windhoek is buzzing with activity as the latest building plan approvals signal robust growth in the construction sector. By the end of July 2025, the city had recorded an impressive N.2 billion in building plan approvals, marking a notable 2.1% increase compared to the same time last year. This data, reported by Africazine, highlights the upward momentum in the country’s real estate and construction landscape, an encouraging sign for investors and builders alike.

Over the past year, a total of 1,970 building plans were approved, valued at a staggering N.24 billion. This reflects a 6.7% rise in the number of approvals and a stunning 24.8% increase in the total value year-on-year. Such growth not only supports economic development but also signifies rising confidence among property developers and investors in Windhoek.

July was particularly noteworthy, with 241 building plans approved that month alone, cumulatively worth N5.6 million—a jump from the previous month’s figures. In terms of monetary value, that’s an increase of N.6 million, up 38.3% from June, showcasing an energetic market that is continually expanding.

A significant trend identified in the recent figures is the rise in property additions, with 197 recorded in July. This is a substantial increase from the 115 permits logged in June, and these additions were valued at N.2 million, reflecting a remarkable 108% month-to-month rise. Year-to-date, 900 additions with a total value of N9.9 million have been approved, symbolizing a healthy growth trajectory in the housing sector.

In the residential domain, 29 new units were sanctioned in July, amounting to N.2 million. While this marks a 26.1% increase in the number of approvals from the previous month, there’s a slight decline in the overall value. Year-to-date, 171 residential units have been approved, although slightly fewer than last year’s figures. Nevertheless, the past year has shown a total of 322 approved units with a combined value of N1.5 million, indicating an increase in both number and value compared to last year.

Commercial and industrial approvals also made headway in July, totaling 15 units worth N.2 million—more than double the seven approved in June. To date, 40 commercial and industrial units have been approved, amounting to N4.4 million, demonstrating a strong value increase despite a minor decrease in the number of approvals.

As Namibia continues to embrace urban development, Windhoek’s building sector shines as an excellent example of resilience and growth. The ongoing investment not just in residential properties but also in commercial and industrial sectors paints a promising picture of what lies ahead for the capital city.

With construction activity surging, Windhoek is not just building homes; it’s establishing a vibrant future for businesses, families, and investors alike. Watch this space as the city continues to develop!
