“IPAC Urges Swift Release of Guidelines Ahead of Lagos LG Elections”

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) is stepping into the spotlight, urging the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to release timely guidelines for the local government elections anticipated for 2025. This call, made by IPAC chairperson Temilola Akinade during a recent interview, emphasizes the necessity for clear directives to enable all political parties in the region to adequately prepare for the electoral process.

With its role as a collaborative platform for all political groups in Lagos, IPAC is keen on fostering an environment where every party has the opportunity to engage effectively in the electoral process. Ms. Akinade articulated the collective anticipation of all party members when it comes to the forthcoming guidelines, as they are crucial for aligning their strategies and campaign plans. “We are waiting impatiently to hear from LASIEC. Knowing the commission’s plans and programs for the council election is essential for each party’s leadership,” she expressed.

She further highlighted the importance of timely preparations, stating, “The commission should round off its activities on time to avoid poor preparation by political parties.” This sentiment is particularly pertinent, as adequate time for parties to campaign is vital for a healthy democratic process. Akinade emphasized the need for a minimum of three months dedicated to campaign activities to ensuring all parties have a fair chance to reach out to voters.

Additionally, Ms. Akinade encouraged political parties to start organizing themselves for both the primary elections and the impending council elections. She is also advocating for LASIEC to work closely with IPAC to promote a transparent and successful electoral exercise.

As of now, LASIEC has yet to provide any updates regarding the guidelines which are expected to clarify the electoral timetable. This raises questions about the preparedness of various political entities as they gear up for what promises to be a vibrant civic occasion in the heart of Lagos.

In a time where democratic processes are indispensable to nation-building, the collaboration between IPAC and LASIEC could set the groundwork for fair elections that truly reflect the will of the people. As Lagos prepares for a key political event, the hope is that all involved will prioritize the integrity of the electoral process.
