In a heartfelt message addressing the Ghanaians, Joseph Paintsil has expressed sincere regret for Black Stars falling short of the nation’s expectations in the early exit from the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The West African powerhouse’s hopes of advancing to the knockout stages were slim after a 2-2 draw against Mozambique on Monday night. The elimination was confirmed when Cameroon, coming from behind, defeated Gambia.
This means the Black Stars have suffered a back-to-back group stage elimination from the African Cup of Nations. Ghana exited the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon with 1 point after three games in Group C.
The KRC Genk winger in a post on his social media page has apologized to Ghanaians after the painful exit in the group stages.
“Sincere apologies to the good people of Ghana. We are truly sorry for not meeting your expectations. Important lessons to take away from this unforgettable experience.💔Thank you for coming through with your support in our low moments.🙏” he wrote on X sighted by Footballghana.com.
The 25-year-old winger will fly to join his Genk teammates to continue the season after Ghana’s exit.
