The Lagos State Government is enhancing public transportation with the addition of 20 high-capacity Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses.
This initiative, part of the Presidential Initiative on CNG and Electric Vehicle Buses, aims to improve the daily travel experience for commuters. The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) announced that these buses will support the state’s transition to cleaner energy.
Lagos State Receives New CNG Buses
The recent handover ceremony highlighted the significance of these buses in boosting public transportation capacity. Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, emphasized that the new buses will enhance comfort and reduce waiting times for commuters. He described this initiative as a step towards building a cleaner and more sustainable transportation system.
Osiyemi expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the initiative, aligning it with Lagos State’s broader investment in an integrated transportation system that includes BRT, rail, and waterways. He called for continued federal support to expand the CNG bus fleet and infrastructure.

The LAMATA Managing Director, Abimbola Akinajo, stated that these buses are not just vehicles but essential for connecting communities and supporting economic activities. She urged operators to maintain the buses properly to maximize their benefits for commuters.
Furthermore, the Chief Operations Officer of Pi-CNG&EV, Tosin Coker, highlighted Lagos’s critical role in the energy transition for public transport, stressing the importance of proper maintenance for the new fleet.
