Nigeria is making strides in transparency and integrity, with significant rankings in the 2026 Transparency and Integrity Index.
The Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) has been recognized as the most transparent federal institution, scoring 84.14 percent. Meanwhile, Kaduna State leads among state governments with a score of 54.68 percent, according to a report released by the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity (CeFTPI).
NIPC and Kaduna State Shine in Transparency Rankings
The NIPC topped the rankings, outperforming 518 assessed Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and government-owned enterprises. Kaduna State’s score placed it ahead of 35 other states, showcasing a commitment to transparency at both federal and state levels.
Umar Yakubu, the executive director of CeFTPI, presented these findings at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja. The report highlights the importance of transparency, accountability, and integrity in governance.
Nigeria’s Institutions and Their Performance
Following NIPC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) ranked second with a score of 80.13 percent. Other notable institutions include the Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) at 78.43 percent and the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) at 73.22 percent.
Despite these successes, many institutions scored below 20 percent, indicating a need for improvement in transparency practices. The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development notably ranked the lowest with a score of 0 percent.
