Africazine:

Bank Windhoek is making significant strides in community development across Namibia with a substantial investment in social initiatives.

In its latest financial year, the bank allocated more than N million to community development and social value initiatives. This includes N.65 million in direct corporate social investment projects and sponsorships, alongside N,866,900 directed to the Capricorn Foundation.

Bank Windhoek’s Commitment to Community Development

Bank Windhoek’s investment reflects its dedication to improving lives in Namibia. Managing director James Chapman emphasizes that the bank’s strength is linked to the well-being of the society it serves. By focusing on youth skills development, sustainable livelihoods for entrepreneurs, and support for vulnerable families, the bank aims to foster resilience in Namibia.

The Emerging Bankers Programme exemplifies this commitment. It connects school leavers, especially from remote areas, with structured work experience, mentorship, and certification support. The programme’s intake for 2026–2027 has expanded from 10 to 15 participants, addressing youth unemployment and preparing a future-ready talent pipeline.

Key Investments in Social Initiatives

Bank Windhoek’s corporate social investment activities for 2026 focused on various sectors, including health, education, youth development, and agriculture. Notable projects included teacher development, school feeding initiatives, and the Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project. This project has significantly contributed to cancer-related services, with N million handed over to the Cancer Association of Namibia in early September 2026, raising its total contribution since 2000 to N.4 million.

Chapman stresses the importance of measuring the impact of social investments, asking not just how many were reached but what meaningful changes occurred. This approach aims to create a Namibia where more individuals can participate in the economy and shape their futures.

Future Directions for Bank Windhoek’s Initiatives

  • Continued support for the Emerging Bankers Programme.
  • Expansion of the Cancer Apple Project and its initiatives.
  • Ongoing partnerships with the Capricorn Foundation for sustainable development.

Bank Windhoek’s investment in social initiatives is paving the way for a more resilient Namibia.
