Marrakech is on the brink of a major water supply transformation.
The desalination project transporting seawater from Safi to Marrakech is nearing completion, with a remarkable 98% completion rate. This initiative aims to secure the city’s potable water supply, addressing the growing demands of the region.
Desalination Project Nears Operational Phase
The infrastructure for this ambitious project spans approximately 185 kilometers. It includes a network of pipelines, hydraulic structures, and three main pumping stations, along with several reservoirs and control installations. The “Ram Ram” reservoir, located north of Marrakech, is a key component of this system.
Once operational, the system will deliver about 3.2 cubic meters per second, equating to around 100 million cubic meters of water annually. This significant output is expected to bolster Marrakech’s water supply amidst rising demands.
