Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe to Launch New ZWG Notes Nationwide Tuesday

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe is set to launch new ZWG notes nationwide, marking a significant step in currency modernization.

The central bank will roll out the new ZWG notes, known as the Big Five, starting Tuesday. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of banknotes and ensure they withstand prolonged circulation.

Zimbabwe’s New ZWG Notes Launching Soon

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has confirmed that all logistics are in place for the rollout of the new ZWG notes. Governor Dr. John Mushayavanhu stated that the upgraded BiG5 ZiG banknotes have been distributed across the country to meet expected cash demand.

The rollout will begin with ZWG10 and ZWG20 notes, alongside the introduction of ZWG50 notes effective April 7, 2026. Higher denominations, including ZWG100 and ZWG200, will follow based on public demand.

Details on the New ZWG Series

The new ZWG series will also feature smaller denominations, including ZWG1, ZWG2, and ZWG5 coins, to facilitate easier transactions. The old ZWG banknotes will continue to circulate alongside the new notes until they are phased out through deposits.

Access to the new notes will be available through ATMs, Homelink kiosks, and cashback facilities at retail shops, ensuring convenience for users.
