These partnerships focus on leveraging the experience and resources of these municipalities, particularly in areas like human resources, town planning, surveying, and infrastructure development.
“Reaching out to larger municipalities has allowed us to make significant progress in our development initiatives,” Tjihoreko noted. “Without these partnerships, we wouldn’t have the resources, such as the small vehicles provided by the City of Windhoek, which are essential for our day-to-day operations. Our collaboration with Oranjemund is also crucial; we’re set to receive machinery that directly aligns with our infrastructure needs.”
One of the council’s landmark initiatives has been the gradual elimination of the bucket system, which has been a longstanding concern in many rural areas. Currently in its third phase, the Gibeon Village Council has engaged with relevant ministries, which have swiftly allocated funds for necessary infrastructure projects. The council is now actively working on sewer reticulation, marking a significant step toward modernizing sanitation facilities in the village.
