In an exciting development for Lagos commuters, the Lagos State government is making significant strides towards the rehabilitation of the Eti-Osa/Lekki-Epe Expressway, a vital roadway for thousands who traverse this bustling area daily. The project encompasses a crucial stretch from Admiralty Junction to Jubilee Bridge in Ajah, an undertaking rooted in engagement and collaboration with community stakeholders.

Recently, key players, including residents, business owners, transport operators, and government officials, convened at the Lekki Conservation Toll Plaza to discuss the project. This meeting aimed to shed light on potential disruptions to traffic and the diligent measures that will be implemented to ease mobility throughout the rehabilitation phase.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Mr. Olufemi Daramola, emphasized that the meeting was pivotal in ensuring transparency and garnering public support for the road improvement initiative. Acknowledging the persistent challenges commuters face, Daramola highlighted budget constraints, stating, “While we feel the frustrations of residents, immediate solutions are not feasible due to financial limitations. However, we are committed to deploying cold mix asphalt for on-the-spot repairs, with work being conducted day and night.”

The ambitious rehabilitation project is projected to conclude in the first quarter of next year, marking a vital turning point for the iconic expressway. According to Mr. Olutokunbo Oyenuga, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the enhancements will not only bolster safety but also significantly reduce congestion and foster better connectivity for the community.

To mitigate potential chaos during the restoration, various agencies, including LASTMA, the Public Works Corporation, and neighborhood security units, will be strategically stationed along the route. These measures aim to create a harmonious environment that supports a seamless flow of traffic and promotes safety for all road users.

Furthermore, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, called on affluent individuals and organizations operating within the corridor to take a more responsible stance. He noted that while only a small portion of Lagos residents contribute to the tax revenue, the infrastructure is a shared resource that benefits everyone.

As Lagos continues to push forward with these enhancements, residents can look forward to a smoother, safer, and more efficient commute, reaffirming the city’s commitment to development and growth. Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative project!
