Ho Chi Minh City is witnessing a significant milestone in its urban development with the installation of a new pedestrian bridge.

The steel arch of the pedestrian bridge across the Saigon River was transported to the construction site on October 19, 2026. The bridge, which broke ground in late March 2025, has reached over 90 percent completion and involves a total investment of VND1 trillion (US.6 million).

Steel Arch Journey Captivates Residents

The barge carrying the steel arch navigated through sharp bends from Dai Dung Shipyard in Vung Tau to downtown Ho Chi Minh City. This journey required intense concentration from the captains and close coordination among the vessels involved. Residents gathered along the riverbanks to witness the impressive transport of the bridge’s main arch.

As the barge approached key landmarks like Diamond Island, onlookers expressed their admiration for the structure’s scale and design, inspired by the nipa palm leaf. The bridge is set to connect Bach Dang Wharf Park and the Thu Thiem New Urban Area.

Completion Timeline and Investment Details

With a total length of 720 meters and a width ranging from 6 to 11 meters, the bridge’s main span features a 187-meter-long steel arch. This project marks Ho Chi Minh City’s first implementation of a build-transfer model without government payment, paving the way for future landmark projects in the city.

The pedestrian bridge is expected to enhance urban connectivity and beautify the cityscape, attracting both residents and tourists alike.

Next Steps for the Pedestrian Bridge Project

  • The installation and joining of the main arch is scheduled for October 21, 2026.
  • Completion of the bridge is anticipated soon, allowing public access.
