Senator Kalu Advocates for SEDC Operations in South-East Region

The South East Development Commission is set to strengthen its presence in the region it was established to serve.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission, emphasized that the commission must operate from the South-East, not Abuja. During an oversight visit to the commission’s headquarters in Enugu State, Kalu expressed satisfaction with the progress made and urged the management to maintain momentum.

Senator Kalu Advocates for Local Operations

Senator Kalu led his committee on a visit to inspect the commission’s headquarters, noting significant improvements since their last engagement. He highlighted the importance of the commission being physically present in the South-East to effectively serve the local communities.

During the visit, Kalu inspected two facilities: the current office and another building provided by the Enugu State Government, which is nearing completion. He described the headquarters as an impressive structure and acknowledged the progress made in relocating operations to the region.

Nurturing Grassroots Engagement

Kalu reiterated the need for the commission to extend its activities beyond administrative offices and engage with communities across the South-East. He stressed that the commission’s impact should be felt at the grassroots level, ensuring that the local population benefits from its initiatives.

While the commission is relatively new, Kalu urged its management to remain focused on fulfilling its mandate and delivering tangible results for the people of the South-East.

Upcoming Assessments and Expectations

  • The committee will return to Enugu in December to assess further progress.
  • Management is encouraged to sustain the current pace of work.
  • Focus on grassroots engagement should continue to be a priority.

The South East Development Commission is committed to serving its region effectively.
