Africazine:

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is set to enhance its certification process through digital transformation.

The NYSC plans to migrate to an electronic records management system to improve certificate issuance and safeguard official documents. Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu announced this initiative during the 2026 NYSC Certification Officers’ Workshop in Abuja.

NYSC to Adopt Electronic Records Management

The NYSC aims to transition from paper-based certificate production to an Electronic Documents and Records Management System (EDRMS). This shift is designed to enhance accountability and protect important documents from damage and unauthorized alterations.

Brigadier General Nafiu emphasized the need for certification officers to acquire digital skills for this transition. He highlighted the importance of adopting technological solutions, including biometric identification, to further secure the issuance of Certificates of National Service.

During the workshop, discussions focused on overcoming operational challenges in the certification process. The NYSC Director of the Corps Certification Department, Abdullahi Jikamshi, pointed out that despite past achievements, the organization must continuously adapt to technological changes and emerging challenges.

Jikamshi warned that any lapses in the certification process could erode public confidence in the NYSC. He stressed that maintaining the integrity of the certification process is crucial for the scheme, which has built its credibility over five decades.

Next Steps for NYSC Digital Transition
