A new financing initiative in Malawi aims to empower rural businesses and farmers with affordable loans.

The Malawi Agricultural and Industrial Investment Corporation (MAIIC) is rolling out the USD24 million Blended Rural Finance Facility (BRFF) to enhance access to financing in rural areas. As of September 30, 2026, K27.34 billion has been approved or committed to 26 financial institutions, although only K5 billion has been disbursed so far.

So far, approximately 2,714 beneficiaries have been reached, with about K2 billion deployed at the beneficiary level. This initiative prioritizes agriculture and its value chains, as well as micro, small, and medium enterprises.
