The First Technical University in Ibadan has unveiled a new staff office building valued at N1.3 billion, marking a significant development for the institution.
This project, funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), aims to alleviate the longstanding issue of inadequate office space for academic staff. The building features ten professorial offices with research assistants’ spaces, ten ensuite single professorial offices, and 14 offices for senior lecturers.
New Office Building Enhances Academic Environment
The new facility was officially handed over during a ceremony attended by university officials, including the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adesola Ajayi. He emphasized that the completion of this project represents a crucial milestone for Tech-U, which has struggled with office accommodation since its establishment.
Professor Ajayi highlighted that Tech-U was granted special approval from TETFund to use its allocations for new construction, a rare opportunity for institutions that have previously received funding for over five years. This approval underscores the university’s commitment to addressing its pressing infrastructure needs.
Collaboration Key to Project Success
Effective collaboration among the university’s management, the contractor, and the consultant was pivotal in the successful delivery of the project. The Vice-Chancellor praised the contractor for timely mobilization and completion despite economic challenges and fluctuating material costs.
Architect Majolagbe Abdul-Lateef, the project consultant, acknowledged the proactive approach of the university management, which facilitated smooth operations throughout the construction process. The contractor, Kayode Durojaiye, also expressed gratitude for the support received from the university’s supervision team.
Future Infrastructure Plans and Support
- The university aims to secure further TETFund interventions for additional infrastructure needs.
- There is a request for the contractor to assist with connecting the new facility to power through corporate social responsibility.
